the gift of a heart

When you give your heart away to someone, and things don’t work out, you don’t get your entire heart back…but isn’t that the point?

Today I got told by someone that they don't believe that I was given my entire heart back from an ex...so it got me thinking...

A heart is not a gift that you give away with the slightest of care. A heart is a gift you give with careful consideration. A gift that you hope that person will keep and protect for the rest of their life. So why should you expect the entire thing to be given back to you when the decision is made to return it. No, you will always leave behind the smallest amount of it with them…after all, it was theirs too.

Dreaming on arrival in Iceland

I'd been told numerous times that the people of Iceland whole heartedly believed in the existence of faeries, elves and trolls. As we entered the town on the bus late in the night, I could only see lights twinkling though the rain splattered windows and couldn't help but let my imagination run wild thinking they were the homes of the fey fold and we were now entering their magical realm...

It's official

And thus, it is official. I have told work that I am moving overseas next year, and whilst they know I will be leaving end of March, they have still extended my contract past my December end date until my departure overseas (well, that and they are trying to convince me not to go!) It is nice to know that I must be doing something right at work! :)

But onto merrier things, and official plannings of my trip next year!

I am eager to also get into some more of my photography, and now knowing where my paychecks will continue to come from, I might just splurge over christmas and get myself a new snazzy camera! (to go with the mac computer I will buy in the states next year!) so you can guarentee that I will be continueing with my photography. Think of all the amazing beautiful scenery I can use as a back drop in Europe!!!

Just a song that makes me happy, which is how I feel with my travel plans :)

my newest photo monkey :)

So it has been a while since I have gotten out and used my camera for photography purposes. The unfortunate thing is the DSLR that I was using ran out of battery really quickly (doh!) so I started using my phone. Not the quality that I wanted sadly (nor are these pictures) but atleast it got me out and about again. I do really need to buy a new DSLR, perhaps I will do this soon...anyone want to give me the money? :)

Even without the better quality, I still enjoyed it, and have started training up my new photo monkey :) as she is moving to the UK with me next year, I will need her to get comfortable in front of the camera, as I won't have my dear Sally to indulge me in crazy photo days (sadface). I think Emmah did an amazing job, and she looked so beautiful!

The sun was shining over the beautiful bushlands that is the King Lake National Park in Victoria, and for the most part it was delightfully quiet. Only a few cars from past (cue Emmah awkwardly freezing up half naked when one drove past!) and made for an awesome day, followed by eggplant parmagiana's in the St Andrews pub!

I now remember why I love this so much :)

Here comes the sun...

The problem with not having my own camera currently (lost and or dead for both cameras...sad...) is that I end up take phone "selfies" (boy do I hate that word!) as I can't justify having actually photo shoots using my iphone... it just seems sad and pathetic. But, here we are, taking photos of myself on a bright and sunny Melbourne day, while a gust of wind breezes on through.

Welcome back into our lives mr sun, hello spring!

the ghost of adventures past

My insatiable apetite for travel has grown over the last few weeks. Whilst I am finally settling in at work and finding my niche working with high risk adolescence (such incredible kids, with such traumatic histories), I still can't help my mind wandering to the great unknown. I still yearn for travel and working in communities who have fewer oppotunities given to them. The government here can provide and fund for so many opportunities for the kids of Australia. Now I want to be able to provide opportunities for those else where. Combine my desire for social work with my ever growing desire for travel.

I have been reminiscing so much lately on the adventures that I have already been blessed to experience.

I have been busy making plans to explore and travel the world next year and have begun my savings to do so. I will explore the US, and live and work in Europe for some time before spreading my winds in South America and spending time in the communities which I so desperately want to do

I think it's time to get out and experience the joys of the world again and try new things.

There is nothing quite like an adventure...

seeking my inspiration once more

Wow,
So it turns out my new years resolution of blogging more was a fail. here we are 6 months down the track and I have not once sat down to write a blog. I would be lying if I said I hadn't thought about it. Rather I was uninspired to write anything. The big dramas in life got in the way of my creative side this year.
The big things in my life revolved around job hunting, which resulted in a pretty spectacular job working with high risk adolescence, which as you can imagine takes its toll on you. Other things involve the divorce process happening between my parents and the affect that has had on my family... as you can imagine, all of these things have left me little time to dream as I would normally. It has left me little time to seek creative nurturing, and I have come to realise that now is the time I need it most. A dream to escape and seperate myself from the harsh realities of my work and those things in my personal life that I find painful.

With winter drawing in closer the rain has awoken me once more. Those who know me well, know that the rain is a source inspiration and where I feel my soul become cleansed. I am suddenly rebirthed and contemplative and the dreaming washes over me. The raindrops greet me and kiss my face like a lover whilst the wind wraps me in it's arms like an old friend and I am suddenly home.

Let me share with you what inspires me right now.

Blessed be xox

three cheers for new beginnings!

Happy new year to you all! :) Wow, can you believe that it is already 2013? I sure can't.
This year is bound to be full of new adventure for me. Not necessarily the adventures that I had planned (but really, planned adventures aren't always as fabulous as those that you find unexpectantly), but full of the possibilities for adventure!

Originally I had planned to save up money like mad, and bugger off overseas where I can spread my wings, and live like the gypsy I had always wanted to live like (with many more showers though) and embark on what was sure to be the beginning of the great love of my life, a big wide world to roam.
HOWEVER, as always, life takes an unexpected turn. My little sister has just gotten engaged, and has asked me to be her bridesmaid. Amazing really, so in no way a terrible turn. Just an unexpected one.
So I will ofcourse be sticking around to help her out, and soon after the wedding in just over a year, I will take flight on my original course (life pending).

I am a big believer in everything happening for a reason, so it appears, that for the time being, I am in the right place, the place I need to be in.

SO - all of this has made me contemplate what the year ahead might look like now. First and foremost it will be about getting myself a full time social work job. With a year to gain experience, this is a biggy. I am exceptionally nervous about it though, being that it seems to be the final fronteer of becoming an adult, not something I am necessarily keen on. (you know, aside from moving out of home, which I do often when I move overseas each time anyway, so atleast I will get an opportunity to do some serious savings this year).

Secondly, I am making it the year of Ruby. This year I want to take more time for myself. Sure it sounds like every other new years resolution that people make, lose weight, get fit, blah blah blah. But I am not looking at it that way. I am looking more at my mental health, take yoga classes, meditate, do more of the things I love like photography, camping. If I am able to get into a 9-5 job (lets see how that will go...) I will have weekends suddenly freed up (that never happens for me!!) and can whisk myself away with my new swag (thanks santa!) and my camera and explore and immerse myself back in nature.
Also it means no more night time work either. Wahoo! think of the time I can spend now reading books (other than text books for uni) and spending time with friends over coffees, and time for bubble baths, and general RnR that I never used to have time for.
Corny really, but its those small things that I am seriously looking forward to.

I will also be embarking on another blog type adventure with my sister. She wants to start blogging about lingerie and swimwear for every body type, so this will be a new venture to tackle I suppose. Let's see how that pans out!!

I wish you all a wonderful new year, and amazing adventures that the year has to bring :)

Here is a little song to start you off for the new year, I know I love it!!

a thousand regretful apologies!

I must apologise for my recent neglect over the past few months. Unfortunately I have had a severely hectic time!!
Basically to fill you in, in a nutshell I have completed my university degree, and graduated, and have been stuck waitressing through the busy holiday period. I would like to think that cramming and stressing to graduate is an acceptable reason for my neglect. I do have some things I would like to share within the next few days, and start up my blogging once more, if of course, you will still allow me to do so with all of my recent blogging failures!

Much Love

neglected apologies

It appears that my nelgect for this page has continued for longer than I would have hoped. My life has been hectic to say the least - having come back from living in the Philippines trapsing across Europe visint long lost friends and penpals (you can read about it all here), coming home to uni, placements (I am now working with people who have experienced sexual assault or domestic violence), writing research papers, putting my waitress uniform back on on nights and weekends, working within turbulent family dramas and just trying to adjust back to a new world. Not to say that Australia is new to me at all, but after coming back from living in a developing country, I have come back with new eyes and new perspectives which make it hard to fit exactly where i once did.

Needless to say I have been ridiculously busy... and for this, I am sorry.

So please accept my token of apology with this song. It makes me happy and feel free ...That and Lisa Mitchell is pretty much amazing. just saying.

inner salvation

It's like being reunited with an old friend.

The smell of a new book compares nothing to the smell of a really old book. really old books have that combined smell of the people who have once owned and explored the stories within the pages, and the smell of bookstores.
But regardless of age, i find comfort within the poetry scrawled across the pages. I find comfort within the timeless plot of romance and sadness.
Like a big warm blanket, i am enveloped by a world of chivalry and passion, and am transported to another mind set.

Now excuse me while I go forget all woes and indulge in something amazing.

sonnet xx

While studying at the University of the Philippines, I am taking a Shakespeare class. I had to write a short piece on my favourite Sonnet, and this is what I have.

Sonnet 20 A woman's face with nature's own hand

A woman's face with Nature's own hand painted
Hast thou, the master-mistress of my passion;
A woman's gentle heart, but not acquainted
With shifting change, as is false women's fashion;
An eye more bright than theirs, less false in rolling,
Gilding the object whereupon it gazeth;
A man in hue, all 'hues' in his controlling,
Much steals men's eyes and women's souls amazeth.
And for a woman wert thou first created;
Till Nature, as she wrought thee, fell a-doting,
And by addition me of thee defeated,
By adding one thing to my purpose nothing.
But since she prick'd thee out for women's pleasure,
Mine be thy love and thy love's use their treasure.

To pick a favourite Shakespeare sonnet appears to be an almost impossible task. If I was to pick one at this moment in time, I would have to pick sonnet 20. There are many reasons for this, one of which is that the sonnet is an amazing representation of the fluidity of sexuality and love that was common practice within the renaissance. It is beautifully descriptive of a love that is without labels, and is at the same time exceptionally bittersweet, as it is a love that can’t be embraced to loves’ full capacity.

He speaks about how the holder of his hearts’ passion is male, but feminine in all features. His love is a creation of nature that nature herself loved greatly and turned into a man for her own desire. He then speaks about how the relationship cannot come to full fruition, and that the man will be there for women to love physically but Shakespeare will have the young man’s heart. The love he (Shakespeare) holds for this young man is arguably not of a sexual variety, rather, it is about a heartfelt, deep love that exceeds the physical which is a rare commodity in this day and age. It’s also a rarity of the age we are living in now to live without labels. This century that we now live in, particularly within western societies, is obsessed with labeling people. To have a pure love undefined makes this particular sonnet that much more appealing. Their love is a deep connection that transcends all societal expectations and creates its’ own reality. Furthermore, the controversy that this kind of love would cause back in the renaissance and today is something I love. It’s breaking through the conventional barriers that society puts in place to instill what love is believed to be.

The sonnet itself uses beautiful imagery to explore the love Shakespeare holds for this man. I am fond of the way that it flows gently, which suggests the fluidity of the love described, and nature alike. For me, nature is a wonderful choice of describing the creation of this man, and arguably the nature of their relationship. It suggests that love is natural, no matter how it is presented.

i feel naked

Photography for me is relaxing. and without it i feel naked, lost and a bit strung out.
A few weeks ago my DSLR died. I am now living in the Philippines and my compact digital camera is without a charger (until i find out somewhere as my house in Australia seems to have eaten mine) and after getting my computer storage expanded 2 weeks ago, they have deleted my photoshop. I am now feeling exceptionally strung out, naked and lost.

Help!!

the beast

she was torn between the pull in her heart; the piece of her that yearned uncontrollably to be in his arms, and her head that always told her to be good. It was the rational part of her, the part that informed her voice to resist the urge to scream with the wildness inside herself.
She feared that one day she wouldn't be able to hold the beast within and it would emerge with intense animalistic passion, clawing viciously at anything that acted as a barrier to the raw flesh she wished to devour hungrily.
Once the beast was subdued, would he lie beside her, tangled in her naked flesh, purring softly in tune with her rhythmic breath?
Curled in each others bodies, fitting together like jagged puzzle pieces, and moulded into one picture perfect moment?
Would he whisper stories of the past and the stars and Shakespeare to calm her ever wild spirit?
Would he smile wickedly at her once more, before he eagerly consumes her entirely?

She repressed the wild roar inside herself and ignored the growing sensation that surges through her limbs to reach out and snare her prey, as he walks unknowingly past.

Today it is her head that wins. Today.

the road-trip that was

there was adventure.
there was vintage stores, and roller skates. there was mushroom coloured dresses, high heeled shoes, and thomas hardy books that smelt old and amazing and like the best of summer, and thunder storms all rolled into one. there was hours in cars riding up and down the coast, then there was camping in the fields. there was forgotten tent poles and tents hung from trees and exceptionally cold feet. there was broken cameras and baby blue wrens, that whistled and chirped and sang songs against the blue backdrop provided by my car.
there were apostles, not quite twelve of them. there was salada crackers, more long drives, and there was laughter amongst the sun. there was short hikes to falling waters, juice boxes and silly stories. there was alphabagetti, and oops cooking on electric barbecues by the beach. there was icecream phish and roaring waves and starlit skies. there was dedications on the radio to two girls serenaded by triple J lullabies, sleeping in their car by the beach.
There was more op shops, and amazing trinkets, and cassette tapes of music from the 60's, 70's and 80's. there was george michael, and in car dancing.

Then it was over, and there was only fun memories, and the thrift store goodies.

There was smiles and there was friendship. always friendship.
