futuristic jungle atmosphere

Here i am, sitting in a beautiful resort in the middle of singapore, soaking up the sun. singapore is such a strange city. their buildings are all strange futuristic architecture - possibly designed more for imagery than practicality. Their court house looks like a UFO, they have a building shaped like a boat settling on top of three towers, and another sharp angular building that looks like it stepped straight out of flatland when looked at from various angles. In amongst all these buildings there are random spots of greenery (sometimes crawling up the sides of the buildings, or nestled on top of sky-high boats). It really is such a bizarre mixture to see. you can even see some squirrels running amuck outside our balcony window.
The city itself has so many stores from all different places around the world. its a mix of american culture, british, and there is ofcourse some asia mixed in there and even a little of india.

My reasons for being here in singapore with two of my friends is my dad. he has been living here for the past two months with work, and will be here for another three, and his company was nice enough to fly me out so that i can see him. it has been good to see him so far, being that the day he gets home from singapore i will be beginning my adventures in the Philippines and not get an opportunity to spend some time with him. and believe it or not, i actually like my family (most of the time anyway...)

The people here are quite friendly...although i have been told that if they aren't nice they get fired from their jobs, but i like to believe its because they are nice people regardless. however sometimes they are perhaps too nice; example the guy on the train that insisted on following me and sniffing me when i turned my back... that was a little bit creepy.

now i must get back to the reality of my day (which isn't so bad a reality since it involved a massage and some exploring of this weird and wonderful country)

much love, Ruby xo

medicinal cocktails and peanut fog

I spent friday night checking out a very wicked bar with a few of my friends. melbourne is amazing for finding quaint and quirky bars and clubs, i am always discovering something new.

Der Raum had some of the coolest cocktails including the pharmacy which is in the picture above..it had sherbert pills and other alcohols that you constructed yourself using a pill bottle, a syringe and of course the pills themselves. The other drinks had dry ice fogging up the room, and it looked very much like a science lab!

My second drink was the PB&J which had peanut scented fog coming out of the strawberry champagne cocktail...delicious!
i loved it, and you should check it out yourself!

and down by the waves they make me smile

a melodic reflection

there are always those songs that reflect certain points in your life, and there have been several out just recently that speak directly to me, and all the things that are happening in my life at the moment; its scary. it's like these artists have invaded my core, reaching inside and pulling out the things you want to express although you can't. the things that ball up and become a lump in your throat; a constant reminder of all the things that are too difficult to say.

le sigh. i have a soundtrack to my life. as i am sure most people do. here is a sneak peak of mine. this is the insight into the love life of ruby (saying that in the most non emo way that can possibly be said). I should mention that whilst i have had a bit of a flop in terms of my love life, i have also had complete and utter freedom of being able to do the things i want to do. things like going to the philippines on an exchange. going to south america. being able to explore the world on my own terms; unattached and without responsibility to anyone else. It's a bit of a mixed bag really, but in all honesty, i am enjoying being free, however it doesn't make these songs less true to me either.

a storybook wedding

It is strange to see someone you have known for years get married. it is like suddenly we are all grown up and marriage is something that actually can happen, rather than just a fantasy swirling in the mind of a young girl who makes veils from tissue paper and puts her tiny feet into her mothers larger shoes.

While this isn't something that i dream about for myself (in fact when they announced that they were going to throw the bouquet, i ran in the opposite direction bowling a small child over in the process), i still find the moment absolutely magical, after all, you can't be a lover of Shakespeare without having a severely romantic side.

My good friend Stephen had his very own fairytale come true the other day by marrying his dream girl, Carolyn. Their story is a beautiful one, catching each others eyes and interests one new years, then being separated while Stephen went on a religious mission for two years only leaving love to blossom over heart felt, hand written letters as the only source of contact. there was a beautiful reunion, followed shortly by a beautiful wedding.

Stephen and Carolyn, you have found yourselves in each others souls, and i am so deeply happy for you, and have only the best wishes for you in your future together...
